Clean Energy Open Day 2020

Clean Energy Open Day is an opportunity for the Australian public to visit renewable energy projects and learn more about the benefits renewable energy provides. This year due to COVID-19, there are no physical events taking place. However, even though you can't come and visit a renewable energy project this year, clean energy is still powering on!

Australians will still be able to get up close and personal with clean energy generation via video tours of renewable energy projects. We will also be sharing stories from projects around the country. Follow along on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.

Date 25 October 2020
Time 10:00am - 4:00pm

Hamilton Solar Farm and Whitsunday Solar Farm - Queensland

Hamilton Solar Farm (68.9MW) and Whitsunday Solar Farm (68.9MW) are located side by side near the town of Collinsville in Queensland. They have been generating clean energy consistently since March 2019. The solar farms power the equivalent of 45,000 households annually with green energy while preventing 265,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from entering our atmosphere, contributing to the international effort to halt climate change. The sites were developed by Edify Energy, constructed by Bouygues and are owned by 94.9% by WIRSOL Energy and 5.1% Edify Energy.

Mortlake South Wind Farm - Victoria

ACCIONA has partnered with Deakin University to create an interactive virtual reality (VR) tool that will allow community members to experience the new Mortlake South Wind Farm, which is currently under construction. The tool has been developed by researchers in the CADET Virtual Reality Lab at Deakin's School of Engineering. This pre-recorded tour allows you to explore the wind farm and gain a better understanding of how wind farm projects operate. When used in conjunction with a VR headset, this tool can be taken into local schools, community meetings and events to demonstrate firsthand how a wind farm looks and sounds.

The Mortlake South Wind Farm was one of six successful projects announced in September 2018 as part of the Victorian Government's Renewable Energy Target reverse auction. The 35-turbine wind farm will generate enough clean energy to power 117,000 homes a year and is scheduled to commence operation in early 2021.
