The Clean Energy Council’s Solar Retailer Code of Conduct continues to build critical mass with the fiftieth solar company recently accepted into the program, helping more customers choose a reputable solar company.
Clean Energy Council Chief Executive Kane Thornton said the code of conduct was introduced to give consumers the confidence to choose a company who can help them buy a solar power system and with a sizeable number of solar retailers now involved, the program is making a significant impact for the industry and consumers.
“Today we celebrate an important milestone with the fiftieth company, Power Saver Centre Canberra, being accepted into the ACCC-authorised program.
“A solar power system is a big investment for any family, and we understand choosing the right system can be a confusing process,” Mr Thornton said.
“The Approved Solar Retailers accepted into the program offer a minimum five-year whole-of-system warranty and have committed to excellence in customer service and ethical marketing practices.
“The Solar Retailer Code of Conduct takes a lot of the worry out of installing a solar power system. The bar for entry is set high to protect consumers, and currently we knock back about as many companies from the code of conduct as we accept.
“Solar power is a great answer to rising power prices, as more than 1.7 million Australian households will testify. We want to make sure that people invest in this fantastic technology with no regrets,” he said.
The Solar Retailer Code of Conduct was first introduced in 2013. It is the only program of its kind and is authorised by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC). The code was developed with the input of a range of experts from the solar industry, consumer groups, energy users associations, regulators, legal advisors and ombudsmen.
Mr Thornton congratulated CSR Bradford, Energy Matters, Springers Solar and Suntrix as the foundation members of a program which continues to go from strength to strength.
The Clean Energy Council advises all customers to do some basic research before purchasing a solar power system. Free guides for both homes and businesses are available from solaraccreditation.com.au. Visit approvedsolarretailer.com.au for a list of companies approved under the program.
